Product Overview

Lamborghini Gallardo is a high-performance compact sports car in production from 2003 to 2013. It was available with various tunes of two Lamborghini V10 engines that displaced 5.0 to 5.2 liters. Interestingly, the original 5.0 V10 is even-firing, while the updated 5.2 V10 is odd-firing.
Undoubtedly, the most exciting thing about the Lamborghini Gallardo is the V10 engine, which carries a distinct sonic characteristic and instant power response that rival V12s even if it falls short in terms of smoothness.
At the same time, the Gallardo brings the iconic Lamborghini styling to a more "approachable" price point.
Owners may find that at speed the vehicle consumes a lot more than the numbers indicate, thanks to a disappointing 0.36 coefficient of drag to show for it. With a 13.3L/100km (17.7mpg) fuel "dis-economy", owners have to be prepared to pay for their "smiles-per-mile". Utility-minded owners will likely need to keep an alternative for hauling things around, as the tiny cargo space is almost surely insufficient.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Lamborghini Gallardo comes with double-wishbone suspensions at all four corners.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni is a limited edition. The car has no front driveshaft and all the power goes to the rear wheels. It costs £163,245, nearly £20k more than the standard 5.2-litre V10.

The new Lamborghini LP560-4 has a capacity hike from 5.0 to 5.2-litres. Direct injection has enabled a big rise in the compression ratio from 11.8:1 to 12.5:1. Torque is up too, from 376lb ft to 398lb ft, the top speed climbs 5mph to 201mph and the 0-62mph sprint falls from 3.9sec to 3.7sec. The company is aiming for a 40 percent reduction in emissions over the next two years.

Pros
  • More fun to drive than Superleggera
  • New E-gear gearbox
Cons
  • Not the best road car
  • Fiddly infotainment system

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The Lamborghini Gallardo turns ten years old this year. The latest facelift won't alter that, but it is a chance to be reminded of why this remains a great car. The 552bhp V10 has a richly layered, guttural roar, and time hasn't tempered the savagery with which it fires you down the road.

Pros
  • Fantastic performance
  • Superb four-wheel drive
Cons
  • No turbos
  • Lacklustre manual gearbox

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder has same engine, chassis, gearbox, interior plus a 140kg increase in weight. Like the Coupe, the Spyder gets the Reventon-inspired front-end and some exquisite ‘Y-form' LED taillights and running lamps. At 1550kg it's not exactly skinny as it is. The fully-lined fabric roof, available in black, blue, grey or beige, electronically deploys in 20 seconds.

Pros
  • Gorgeous V10 engine
  • Impressive agility
  • Excellent handling
Cons
  • Dated cabin
  • No folding hardtop option

Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante is the most expensive Lamborghini currently on sale. Think of it as a drop-top version of the Gallardo Superleggera, with the same weight-saving measures and the same 562bhp V10 engine. Carbonfibre is used for the side sills, diffuser, rear spoiler and door mirror casings.

Reviewers from carmagazine have found the following***:
The Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera sounds great when spoken quickly in Italian. Goes quickly too, thanks to a 562bhp V10 and a 1340kg kerbweight. A bit of chip tuning was all it took to squeeze an additional 10bhp out of the Gallardo's direct-injection 5.2-litre V10.

The Superleggera weighs 1330kg, a soild 100kg less than the standard Gallardo. Despite the tail-friendly 30:70 torque split, you experience the full handling spectrum from determined understeer to radical oversteer. The sportier dampers are a welcome modification on the track where poise, roadholding and control are instrumental for shaving off tenths here and there.
