Product Overview

Land Rover Range Rover 4 (chassis code L405) is a full-size SUV in production from 2012 to 2021. It was available with a range of inline-4, inline-6, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 2.0 to 5.0 liters.
Reflecting Tata's takeover of LR, this generation of Range Rover received numerous engine options. The push to downsize engines in the industry also played a role in this.
At the same time, this generation of RR is the first to have a long wheelbase model. It is also the first in the industry to be built out of an all-aluminum monocoque. Traditionally, this would have the Range Rover considered a crossover, though the consensus is that it remains an "SUV".
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, will appreciate the extraordinary approach, departure, and breakover angles that the chassis offers. The official fuel economy rating of later PHEV models is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. Utility-minded owners will love the 2470L (87cu-ft) cargo space.

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
Jaguar Land Rover has created a compelling package with the new Range Rover P400e PHEV. Here is a luxurious, comfortable, handsome and refined SUV that also happens to be economical at the same time. We managed to average just 23mpg during our time with the car. Despite all of its hugely capable off-road technology this is a car that’s most at home within the city limits.
Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Expensive to run
  • Not the most fun to drive

Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
While it's not our pick of the range, it's hard to find fault with the Range Rover SDV8. It's gutsy, refined and super-luxurious; the big diesel engine suits the car's relaxed personality. The whopping great 4.4-litre V8 is a strong performer. Put your foot down and the nose will raise to the sky, catapulting the SUV from 0-60mph in just 6.5 seconds.
Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Impressive range
  • Superb infotainment system
Cons
  • Noisy in all-electric mode

carmagazine[3]

Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The new plug-in hybrid P400e powertrain option was brought into being. It pairs Jaguar Land Rover's 2.0 turbo Ingenium four with an electric motor within the ZF eight-speed transmission and a battery beneath the boot. Peak figures are 398bhp and 472lb ft of torque for a 0-60mph time of 6.4sec (versus 6.5sec for the SDV8). The additional hardware brings with it some 300kg of additional mass for a kerbweight of 2509kg.
Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Superb infotainment system
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Expensive compared to other Range Rovers
  • Lack of regenerative braking

carwow[4]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carwow have found:
The Range Rover SVAutobiography is an ultra-luxurious version of the already incredibly posh Range Rover. It's a high-riding alternative to the likes of the Mercedes S-Class and runs the opulent Bentley Bentayga and Rolls Royce Cullinan close in the outright luxury stakes. The interior feels even more solidly built than the standard Range Rover's and almost every surface comes with plush leather upholstery.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • High-quality interior
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of space for luggage
  • Not quite as comfortable as alternatives

The 2019 Land Rover Range Rover P400e is only available in the midtier HSE trim level. It starts at $95,950 before options and a $1,295 destination charge. Equipped driver aid features include a standard rear camera, distance sensors and rear cross-traffic alerts.
Pros
  • Powerful V6 engine
  • High-quality interior
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Hiccups with cabin electronics
  • No hybrid tax

pcmag[6]

Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Range Rover HSE P400e's air suspension gives the vehicle an incredible 11 inches of ground clearance. The Terrain Response 2 system allow it to tackle everything from deep sand, mud, snow, and even rock crawling with just a twist of a dial or via the lower touch screen. An InControl app allows remote access to the vehicle via phone or smartwatch to lock or unlock the doors, find the car on a map, and other functions.
Pros
  • Superb off-road performance
  • Excellent fuel economy
  • Powerful turbocharged engine
Cons
  • Inconsistent electric range
  • InControl Apps doesn't work well
