Product Overview

Hyundai Santa Fe 4 (chassis code TM) is a mid-size crossover in production from 2018 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4 and V6 engines that displaced 2.0 to 3.5 liters.
Compared to the Mk3 Santa Fe, the Mk4 received a rather handsome design. In many aspects, it has decidedly eclipsed the Honda CR-V, the vehicle that it has long sought to compete against.
A global car, the Santa Fe is assembled in numerous countries with several engine lineups, with the more desirable ones limited to countries with less strict emission requirements.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
While the 2018 Santa Fe rides on an all-new platform, the powertrains are carried over. New is a safety system that temporarily locks the doors should an occupant attempt to open one into the path of oncoming traffic. There’s a new head-up display of heightened clarity, and the infotainment screen functions as a virtual rear-view mirror. The main engine for the UK will be the current 2.2-litre 194bhp diesel.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • New head-up display
  • Decent handling
Cons
  • Not UK-bound
  • Lacklustre infotainment

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The latest Santa Fe is an all-new model, around 80mm longer at 4770mm, with 65mm added to the wheelbase. New interior is dominated by an impressive two-level fascia featuring a prominent and unusually easy-to-use central screen. All versions are powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 197bhp at 3800rpm.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent cabin space
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox

The all-new Hyundai Santa Fe is a talented family car. It offers space, comfort and kit in spades, as well as an accomplished driving experience and impressive refinement. However, no matter how much standard kit it offers, top-spec models like ours are expensive – even on a monthly PCP finance deal.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Lots of standard kit
Cons
  • Expensive on a monthly PCP

autoexpress[4]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Hyundai Santa Fe was one of the first models to be given a sharp new look. The body looks sleek, and its hefty size makes it an SUV with presence. Despite its powerful 194bhp 2.2-litre CRDi engine, it emits either 155, 159 or 178g/km of CO2 depending on the drivetrain and/or trim level. With the six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel-drive, the Santa Fe manages 47.9mpg and emits 155. In 4x4 guise with the automatic gearbox, it achieves 41.5mpg.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Good value for money
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • No automatic gearbox
  • Chunky A-pillars

autoexpress[5]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The Skoda outperformed its rivals in many of our tests at the track, mainly because it's the lightest car here by a big margin. It holds onto its crown as the best seven-seat family SUV you can buy, although we'd choose a lower-spec model. The latest version of the Hyundai Santa Fe is the best yet. It's comfortable and the interior improvement means it feels more upmarket. You get more standard kit than on many premium rivals, too.

Pros
  • Excellent off-road capability
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Uncomfortable ride
  • Ridiculously noisy engine

The base Santa Fe is powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine making 185 horsepower. All Santa Fe models use an eight-speed automatic transmission routing power to the front wheels. The Santa Fe performs nicely off-road and also looks good against a backdrop of beach selfies.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good off-road performance
Cons
  • Lack of tech
  • Lackluster infotainment tech

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The big Santa Fe feels more like a plush luxury sedan than a tall crossover. The steering is nicely weighted, while reasonably direct and accurate in its response. The Santa Fe's Achilles' heel lies in its cargo capacity that can't measure to others in the class. The base Santa Fe XL SE comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Pros
  • Solid three-row powertrain
  • Comfortable ride
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Cramped third row
  • Lack of driver-assistance tech
