Product Overview

Volkswagen Beetle (A5) is a compact hatchback in production from 2011 to 2018. It was available with a range of inline-4 and inline-5 engines that displaced 1.2 to 2.5 liters.
Compared to the New Beetle that preceded it, the A5 Beetle has a more conventional FWD design, though VW still threw in some retro design elements. Unfortunately, VW downsized the engines but failed to upgrade the suspension.
Owners may find that at speed the vehicle consumes a lot more than the numbers indicate, thanks to a disappointing 0.36 coefficient of drag to show for it.

Reviewer score 65% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The second generation Volkswagen Beetle is greatly improved over the car it replaced. The styling is dramatic and contemporary, there's more of a premium feel inside and out. It's even more fun to drive thanks to the better dynamics of the Mk VI Golf platform on which it's built. With a reasonable level of practicality and low running costs, it's a style statement that doesn't demand too much in the way of compromises.
Pros
  • Stylish styling
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Alternatives offer more practicality
  • Lack of safety features

Reviewers from cnet have found:
Final Edition models get their own special colors reminiscent of hues offered on the Última Edición. Blind-spot monitoring is standard, and is helpful when the canvas top is up. With the top up, the Beetle's cabin is pretty quiet -- better than what I originally expected.
Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Comfy, leather seats
  • Good infotainment tech
Cons
  • No adaptive cruise control or lane-keeping assist
  • Limited cargo space
