Product Overview

Volvo V40 Cross Country is an affordable compact hatchback in production from 2013 to 2018. It was available with a range of inline-4 and inline-5 engines that displaced 1.5 to 2.5 liters.
Essentially, the V40 Cross Country is a hatchback with extra plastic thrown on in Volvo's signature "Cross Country" treatment. It resulted in a car that's decidedly uglier than pre-treatment and one that handles worse. Naturally, nobody brings a hatchback offroad.
The interesting engine option is the inline-5 (I5) engine, which has a unique exhaust characteristic and good power response that many owners love. The V40 Cross Country was one of the last cars to sport this engine.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. Utility-minded owners will have to keep in mind that the 335L (12cu-ft) cargo space may not be sufficient.

Reviewer score 40% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
This is the Volvo V40 Cross Country, its suffix denoting SUV pretensions for the V40 hatchback. You get a raised ride height, and some rugged body trim for £1000 over a normal V40 – we drove the entry-level D2 diesel version. It's not so much Bear Grylls as your average bloke who's been shopping in Millets.
Pros
  • Rugged styling
  • Decent off-road performance
Cons
  • Lacklustre ride quality
  • Slightly fidgety on British roads
