Product Overview

Volvo V90 is an executive station wagon in production from 2016 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 2.0 liters.
With this generation of vehicles, Volvo had moved to a essentially building its fleet with a single I4 engine (later an I3 was added). Hence, the various engines only differed in boost and fuel. On the one hand, this has caused concerns among many long-term Volvo owners with regard to reliability. On the other hand, the much-improved design language seems to draw in many new buyers.
Indeed, the V90 is arguably the most elegant station wagon in its class. It has the length the width to work with an elegant design, and Volvo didn't waste the opportunity (the same design language worked less well on the V70).
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Volvo V90 comes with double-wishbone and multi-link suspensions. While unusual for a FWD vehicle, this setup offers superior handling characteristics than a normal strut setup.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 58% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The T5 has the potential to be the best compromise in terms of performance, price and economy. 247bhp puts the V90 right in the firing line of rivals such as the identically powered Jaguar XF Sportbrake 25t and BMW 530i Touring. Outright performance is respectable rather than outstanding. But the diesel engine remains a more effective all-round package.
Pros
  • Powerful V90 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Pricier than rivals
  • Lacklustre fuel economy

carmagazine[2]

Reviewer score 78% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Volvo describes the chassis set-up as'relaxed confidence' Up front, the V90's pale woods, stylish seats and control layout feel very familiar from the XC90. With 560 litres seats up, it's about the same size as the current 5-series and A6 boots. Most impressive is the engine's responsiveness and its refinement.
Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Not the class-leading V90
