Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz E-class Estate S213 is an executive station wagon in production from 2016 to 2020. It was available with a range of inline-4, inline-6, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 1.9 to 4.0 liters.
Designed-wise, many regard the W213 sedan, which the S213 is based on, to be a much more coherent design than the W212. Meanwhile, the S213 is not as distinct a departure from the facelifted S212.
Unfortunately, the robust M157 5.5L V8 bi-turbo engine was replaced by the new hot-vee M276 engine. While this engine is still new in its lifecycle, records of hot-V8s from BMW and VAG have shown that this design increases the concentration of heat in the engine bay and usually lead to premature leaks and wear of electronic as well as mechanical components.
Mercedes-Benz has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.28 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the S213 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.

Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The E-Class Estate is a classy wagon that's supremely practical. It might be a little more expensive to run, but it's cheaper to buy outright and on PCP finance. The significant boot space advantage means it fulfils its brief better than the Audi. It's marginally less comfortable and not quite as hi-tech here, but this small shortfall is more than made up for in other areas.
Pros
  • Class-leading practicality
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of tech as standard
