Product Overview

Audi A6 Avant C6 (Typ 4F) is an executive station wagon in production from 2004 to 2008. It was available with a range of V6, V8, and inline-4 engines that displaced 2.0 to 4.2 liters.
Owners will probably gravitate towards the V8. However, there is a catch: While the 40-valve, port-injected 4.2L is arguably the most reliable V8 that Audi/VAG has ever made, the 32-valve direct-injected one is the polar opposite: It suffers from all early direct-injection issues, including the worst of them all---premature engine wear. This engine also had a horrible and unreliable timing chain setup that is very difficult to fix.
The FSI V6s all suffers from the same problems, too. It was the diesels that were relatively reliable.
On a lighter note, the C6 A6 Avant used multi-link suspensions all-around, which made the C6 A6 Avant one of the better handling station wagons.
