Product Overview

Audi RS 4 B7 (Typ 8E) is a high-performance compact executive sports sedan in production from 2005 to 2009. It was available with a single direct-injected V8 engine that displaced 4.2 liters.
Unfortunately, this 4.2 FSI engine suffers from the convoluted timing chain design of the time. Couple that with its high-sprung nature (8000rpm redline) and carbon build-up issue, this engine makes the B7 RS 4 a high-maintenance vehicle. Obviously, it doesn't help that Audi's AWD system necessitated the extremely tight engine bay: in a compact vehicle like the A4/S4/RS4, there isn't any space for work, and even simple jobs require at least setting the car in "service position" if not pulling the engine out.
Luckily, most of the issues with the B7 RS 4 are engine-related. The 6-speed Getrag manual transmission is very robust, as is the mechanical (still for this generation) AWD system.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the B7 RS 4 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.
