Product Overview

Audi S4 B7 (Typ 8E) is a compact executive sedan in production from 2004 to 2008. It was available with a single naturally-aspirated 4.2L V8 engine also found in the B6 S4. The same transmissions from the B6 S4 were again offered. This was hardly surprising, for the B7 Audi A4 was more or less just a facelift of the B6.
Still, an important update was the introduction of the Torsen T-3 center differential for the manual transmission model starting from 2007: While the conventional Audi quattro AWD system was symmetric, this new system was rear-biased with a default 40:60 split.
A positive is that Audi spared the B7 S4 from the 4.2 FSI engine, which has since accumulated a well-earned reputation for being unreliable.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the B7 S4 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.
