Product Overview

Audi A4 B8 (Typ 8K) is a compact executive sedan in production from 2007 to 2011, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of V6 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.8 to 3.2 liters.
While direct injection (FSI) had been fully rolled out across Audi's lineup at this point, the pre-facelift B8 A4 had an naturally-aspirated V6 petrol engine on offer. Unfortunately, this is the 3.2 FSI engine with the infamously convoluted timing chain setup and questionable reliability. Added to that the tight engine bay (which is uniquely Audi), this was a rather disappointing powertrain option.
Instead, the more dependent engines from this generation were the diesels.
Another issue that plagued these vehicles were, again, the "Multitronic" CVT transmission on the FWD models. These transmissions have a well-earned reputation for unreliability; when paired with the horrible V6 petrol, they become a match made in hell.
Audi has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.27 coefficient of drag to show for it.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the B4 A4 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.
