Product Overview

Audi A3 Sedan (code 8V) is a compact sedan in production from 2013 to 2016, whereupon it received a facelift. It was powered by a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.4 to 2.0 liters paired to either 6-speed manual or 6- and later 7-speed DCTs (marketed as S-Tronic).
At this point, VW had become comfortable with its all-turbocharged engine lineup for all but the most exclusive models. The A3 Sedan, being the least expensive 4-door sedan in Audi's model lineup, was fully committed to turbocharging. However, this doesn't mean that these VW engines did not have carbon build-up and oil consumption issues. In relative terms, the diesels were the more sensible choice.
The 6-speed manual was rather good; however, the S-tronic transmission can be finicky. The AWD system, though marketed as "quattro" was different from the mechanical symmetric AWD system found in higher-end Audi sedans. It was a simple system that we commonly find in economy cars.
Audi has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.28 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the A3 8V uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.
