Product Overview

Mazda 3 / Axela III (code BM) is an affordable compact sedan in production from 2014 to 2016, whereupon it received a facelift. It is available with a range of inline-4 engine sthat displaced 1.5 to 2.2 liters.
While the Gen3 Mazda 3 is limited to inline-4, the newer Skyactiv powertrain were much more efficient and somewhat more powerful than before. Still, buyers of the Mazda 3, especially in sedan form, must not care too much about driving.
Mazda has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a good 0.26 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. The vehicle also comes with a high towing capacity.

External Reviews

autoexpress[1]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Mazda 3 hatchback is a sleek looking five-door that sits between the Mazda 2 supermini and Mazda 6 family car in the Japanese maker's UK line-up. Improvements made to the Mazda 3 at the end of 2016 were small but worthwhile, and keen drivers will revel in the car's engaging handling. There are four engines variants to choose from too, including a pair of 2.0-litre petrols with 119bhp or 163bhp.
Pros
  • Frugal and responsive petrol and diesel engines
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • No high-performance option

carmagazine[2]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Mazda says it won't build a GTI-rivalling hot ‘MPS’ version of the fine new 3. That means that this 163bhp-tune 2.0-litre model (notably free of forced induction) is the performance flagship. Is it enough to make the most of the new 3's entertaining dynamics?
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Punchy handling
Cons
  • No turbocharger
  • Lack of mid-range urge
