Product Overview

Volvo S90 is a full-size executive sedan in production from 2016 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It is available with a large range of inline-4 engines that displace 2.0L.
The Volvo S90, like all modern Volvo cars, is limited to inline-4, which just a decade ago would be considered inadequate but which is what most have to live with today, thanks to regulations.
Volvo has made a good effort in aerodynamics, with a decent 0.26 coefficient of drag to show for it. The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality. The Volvo S90 also comes with a high towing capacity.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Volvo S90 comes with double-wishbone and multi-link suspensions. While unusual for a FWD vehicle, this setup offers superior handling characteristics than a normal strut setup.

External Reviews

autoexpress[1]

Reviewer score 69% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Volvo S90 is the company's best crack yet at taking on the dominant German brands in the premium executive saloon sector. The real strengths of the S90 are its cruising refinement and, as is often the case with Volvo, the amount of safety kit on board. The driving dynamics aren't on a par with the class benchmark, though.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • Not as agile as rivals
  • Lack of standard equipment

Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
Every S90 comes with the fancy Sensus touchscreen, sat-nav with lifetime mapping updates, voice control, leather heated seats, twin-zone climate control and a bundle of safety kit. Our entry-level Momentum car had its price inflated to £39,280 by the following extras: The good news is, the D4 feels every inch a quality product, even without lashings of options.
Pros
  • Stylish interior
  • Sensus touchscreen
  • Decent infotainment tech
Cons
  • No six-pots
  • No automatic gearbox

carwow[3]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carwow have found:
There's nothing overtly sporty about the S90's high-quality finish and armchair-like seats. If you want a sportier drive, R-Design is the trim to go for. The Cross Country only comes as a V90 estate but gets raised suspension and four-wheel drive to help it cope with the rigours of an active lifestyle or rural living.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of safety features
Cons
  • Not the most comfortable to drive

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
The S90 T8 is a good car, but I'd be happier and much more satisfied saving thousands and getting the mid-grade T6. Infotainment is managed via Volvo's Sensus Connect interface that's a bit busy with its bevy of menus. The S90 -- even the base, front-wheel-drive, 2.0-liter turbo, 250-horsepower model at $48,100 -- offers a stingy 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space.
Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Sensus Connect infotainment
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of folding rear seats
  • No folding rear row
