Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM
Full-Frame LensProduct Gallery
Product Overview
Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM is a large-aperture short telephoto prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2016, it has 11 elements in 8 groups.
For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing. On the lens barrel, one can find a physical aperture ring. Those who wish to focus manually can have the best of both worlds (with the usual caveats).
A telephoto prime lens, the Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM is well suited for portrait photography.

digitalpicture[2]
Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)Sony's 11-blade aperture is unique for this class of lenses, with most having 9-blades. At f/2, the Sony appears somewhat sharper, but it has more moiré. The Sony shows less vignetting in the same wide aperture comparisons and the Tamron has a touch less linear distortion.
Pros
- Excellent f/2.8 aperture
- Competitively priced
- In-lens vibration control
Cons
- Limited focus ring rotations
- No manual aperture option
