Product Overview

Sony FE 85mm F1.8 is a short telephoto prime lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2017, it has 9 elements in 8 groups.
For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing. A telephoto prime lens, the Sony FE 85mm F1.8 is well suited for portrait photography. As it is comparatively lightweight and compact, the SEL85F18 can also make for a good landscape lens.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
Focus on the Batis works similarly with the only differences being that it has no focus-lock button but offers a display for focus distance and depth of field. The lens focuses in around 0.7 sec on an A7R II from infinity to 1m (1:10 magnification), which is pretty slow. The focus/control ring is 24mm wide and its surface is not rubberized but as it moves super smooth.
Pros
  • Small, light, and relatively cheap
  • Sharpness and repeatability
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No focus-lock button
  • Relatively slow autofocus

digitalpicture[2]

Reviewer score 72% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
The Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 Lens is compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras, including both full-frame and APS-C sensor format models. No lens case is included in the box, but finding a case for a common lens form factor is not challenging. The rounded shape means you can stand the lens on that end, even with the camera attached, in situations where you are comfortable.
Pros
  • Sharpness advantage at f/1.8
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras
  • 1-year limited warranty
Cons
  • No lens case included in box
