Product Overview

Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS is a telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount. It covers the full-frame image circle. Introduced by Sony in 2016 as the original G Master lens, it has 32 elements in 18 groups.
Like most zoom lenses, the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS is externally-zooming. Fortunately, Sony has provided a zoom lock that at least stops zoom creep. For incremental weathers, Sony is kind enough to include weather sealing.
As a telephoto zoom lens with a bright maximum aperture, the Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS is well suited for sports and portrait photography. Built-in image stabilization makes the lens easier to use handheld, and can be quite valuable for landscape works. Owners will also like the available tripod collar.

External Reviews

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The FE 70-200mm f2.8 G Master is Sony’s professional large aperture telephoto zoom lens for their Alpha mirrorless cameras. The zoom ring turns through 70 degrees and has a 30mm wide rubber surface with a good grip. As you pull focus, you’ll notice quite some focus breathing: the image becomes clearly more magnified at closer focusing distances.
Pros
  • Sharpness at 200mm focal length
  • Optical image stabilization
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Focus breathing
  • No fluorine coating

digitalpicture[2]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
As an "FE" lens, the Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS Lens is compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras. This lens comes with a 1-year limited warranty. As of review time, direct alternatives to this lens require a lens mount adapter and adapted lenses do not perform as well on Sony cameras.
Pros
  • Sharpness at f/2.8 aperture
  • Compatible with all Sony E-mount cameras
  • Two additional aperture blades (11 vs. 9)
Cons
  • Requires adapter for use on Sony cameras
