Product Overview

Laowa Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO is a large-aperture manual-focus prime lens for several popular APS-C mirrorless systems. It has a very similar optical design to that found in the Argus 35mm f/0.95 FF for full-frame and is thus optically comparable with the latter.
Thanks to its exceptionally large aperture, the Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO allows the photographer to create shots with usually shallow depth of field. Low-light works are also made considerably easier.
As is the case with its bigger brother, the Argus 33mm f/0.95 CF APO has been claimed by Laowa to offer high contrast and resolution from wide open. While the definition of these words may be up to debate, we can be sure from sample photos and initial reviews that this Argus lens has a soft out-of-focus rendering and smooth out-of-focus transition that many photographers value.

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
      Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
The Laowa Argus 33mm F0.95 is the best by a small margin in term of build quality, but also the heaviest one. It cost 2 times the 7 Artisans but a bit less than the Mitakon one. The lens is delivered with a nice rectangular lens hood that give a “cinema’ look to the lens.
      Pros
      • Good sharpness wide open and creamy background blur; at F2.8 the lens is tack sharp
      • Good contrast
      Cons
      • Corners are weaker than the centre as expected but their behavior is but much better than on the 7Artisans 35mm F0.95
