Product Overview

Fujifilm GFX50S II is the revision of Fuji's GFX50S medium format mirrorless camera. In essentially the same body, the GFX50S II packs Fujifilm's newer X-Processor 4 image processing engine and offers a number of incremental upgrades.
As the new entry point to medium format photography, the GFX50S II comes in at a price of high-end full-frame mirrorless cameras, while offering the light-capturing capability and the unique look of medium format, in this case with a sensor 1.7 times larger than full-frame in area.
The camera's powerful IBIS delivers up to 6.5 stops of image stabilization, and it is weather-sealed at 60 locations. This combination, together with the newly-launched compact GF35-70mmF4.5-5.6 WR lens, makes the new GFX50S II a very compelling travel and landscape camera indeed.
While the large sensor size restricts the camera's readout speed and hence burst rate, Fujifilm promises high performance autofocus, thanks to the new X-Processor 4 chip.
Last but not least, the GFX50S II features Pixel Shift Multi-Shot function, which quadruples the resolution of the final image and is a great option for archiving.

cameralabs[1]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The GFX50S II brings Fujifilm’s medium format system to a more affordable price point. By taking the surprisingly compact body of the GFX100S, the 50S II inherits the latest controls and features including built-in stabilisation. By swapping the sensor for the original 51.4 Megapixel model, you save 2000 dollars or pounds on the price. The lack of 4k video, or even 1080 beyond 30p, is undoubtedly a limitation in the current market.
Pros
  • Compact body
  • Fast autofocus
  • Compact and lightweight
Cons
  • No 4k video or 1080 beyond 30p
  • No phase-detect AF

dpreview[2]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from dpreview have found:
The GFX 50S II is no bigger than some full-frame DSLRs and makes a superb studio or landscape camera. Its solid build and direct control make it a very satisfying camera to shoot with and the end results hold up to the closest scrutiny. However, its relatively slow contrast-detect autofocus and a rather flighty face/eye detection means it is much less adept at portraiture. Its slow AF and 3 fps maximum shooting rate essentially rule it out for sports and action work.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent autofocus
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Slow AF
  • No telephoto lens

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The GFX50S II is best for up-and-coming photographers scrabbling for a medium format digital and for those who see it as a backup to a GFX100S. Full-frames focus faster, support 4K recording at minimum, and use smaller, lower cost lenses. It's simply far more versatile and our Editors' Choice winner for medium format cameras.
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Excellent autofocus performance
  • In-body stabilization
  • 4K video
Cons
  • Not as flexible as full-frame alternatives

techradar[4]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Fujifilm GFX50S II has the same 51.4MP sensor that was used in the original GFX 50S. Despite getting the latest X-Processor 4 engine, there's still no 4K video capabilities on the Mark II. Autofocus performance can feel sluggish when compared to a full-frame or APS-C mirrorless camera.
Pros
  • Superb image quality
  • Superb autofocus
  • Excellent dynamic range
Cons
  • No 4K video
  • Slow continuous shooting speed
