Product Overview
Huawei MateBook 16 is a powerful 16-inch laptop powered by the AMD Ryzen 5000-series CPUs in a unique 3:2 aspect ratio. It comes with a similar set of I/O options as the MateBook D 16 but is overall a notable upgrade over the latter.
The 3:2 aspect ratio featured by the MateBook 16 greatly increases viewing area, despite having the same diagonal. It also makes the device more compact. With an industry-leading 90% screen-to-body ratio, the MateBook 16 is ideal for productivity on the display front, thanks to its 10-bit IPS panel with 100% sRGB coverage.
Another highlight of the MateBook 16 is the latest Ryzen 5000-series CPUs up to Ryzen 7 5800H with 8 cores and 16 threads. They are joined with 16GB of DDR4 memory and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD.
Last but not least, the MateBook 16 boasts a large 84Wh battery in a chassis under 18mm thin.

External Reviews
anandtech[1]
Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)The MateBook 16 is well within the spec for this part, however nowhere on the box does it say as much. There are tradeoffs with the lower power setting, such as slightly reduced performance in exchange for some battery life. Using features like the Huawei Share was actually quite easy, to move files, or to extend a workspace. The 16-inch size of the unit isn’t ideal when faced with modern-day economy travel.
Pros
- Decent performance
- Good battery life
- Good value for money
Cons
- 16:10 display isn’t ideal for economy travel
- No USB Type-C port

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Huawei MateBook 16 is a well-designed notebook with enough performance, battery life, and high-end features to suit those looking for a professional-grade laptop. With fast USB-C charging, Wi-Fi 6 on board, and Windows 11 supported too, this is a future-proof purchase that will last years to come.
Pros
- Beautiful 3:2 display
- High-end features
- Long battery life
Cons
- No dedicated GPU
- No front-facing speakers
notebookcheck[3]
Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)The case of the MateBook 16 hardly heats up during everyday tasks/low loads. Only when the CPU is under continuous full load will the fans become very audible. The sound created by the two stereo speakers next to the keyboard is surprisingly loud and full-bodied. While the competing Dell XPS 15 has slightly better speakers, these tend to overdrive in certain cases.
Pros
- High-resolution 3:2 display
- High-quality case
- Good speakers
- Good battery life
Cons
- No SD card reader

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Huawei MateBook 16 is a relatively compact and lightweight laptop for one that has a 16-inch screen. You can pick it up from European retailers for around €1,100, which at the time of writing is the equivalent of approximately £935 or $1,245. It's a quality spec for an everyday laptop, and it's only really in gaming and video editing where it's likely to start struggling. The battery life isn't spectacular, but the design and finish make it a premium device.
Pros
- Great performance
- Comfortable keyboard
- Decent battery life
Cons
- No memory card slot
- Poor webcam
- Limited availability

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)As a work driver, the MateBook’s eight-core Ryzen processor did an excellent job. The fans were silent under heaps of Chrome tabs, Spotify streaming, and Zoom calls. We saw an average of 15 frames per second on Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The MateBook 16 seems like a notebook with the potential to have widespread appeal.
Pros
- High-resolution screen
- Compatible with other Huawei products
- Good battery life
Cons
- No USB Type-C ports
- Lackluster webcam
