Product Overview
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR / Hero III G731 is a 17.3-inch gaming laptop powered by 9th-gen Intel Core Coffee Lake processors. It features the world's fastest 240Hz FHD IPS display with 100% sRGB coverage and 3ms response time, while a 144Hz model is also available.
The G731 comes with "Keystone" compatibility: Keystones are NFC-enabled keys that fit neatly into the chassis of the Strix SCAR III. When docked, the personalization profiles stored in them are instantly applied. Access to secure Shadow Drive also becomes available.
Like other ROG Strix devices, the G731 features ASUS's Aura Sync RGB lighting system with a large range of programs.
The SCAR III and Hero III versions of the G731 are essentially the same laptop with some different design elements to cater to FPS and MOBA gamers respectively.
Alongside the ROG Strix SCAR / Hero III G731, ASUS also introduced the 15.6-inch G531 that shares much of the same features.

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Asus G731GW offers multiple preset fan profiles and allows users to customize the fan curve through software. The fan sound profile is well-balanced and evenly tuned; thus, the fans are not whiny and emit a low-pitched whir, even when running at full blast. Power draw is in high line with other high-end gaming laptops when the machine is doing light work.
Pros
- Fast 144 Hz refresh rate
- Excellent speakers
- Good battery life
Cons
- Below-average CPU and GPU performance
- No Thunderbolt 3
