Product Overview

Tokina FíRIN 100mm F2.8 FE MACRO is a telephoto macro lens. Second model in the FíRIN series, it is designed for photographic artists using Sony's E-mount mirrorless cameras.
With a life-size 1:1 reproduction ratio, the FíRIN 100mm F2.8 FE MACRO is a competent and affordable option for macro photography. At the same time, its optical design characterized by low distortion and fall-off as well as strong flare resistance and out-of-focus rendering (bokeh) make this lens an interesting option for portrait photography.
The FíRIN 100mm F2.8 FE MACRO, like all 1:1 macro lenses, uses external focus.
Tokina also offers the same optical design in a DSLR lens, the atx-i 100mm F2.8 FF MACRO.

Reviewers from sonyalpha have found:
Vignetting is very small at F2.8 (better than the Sony and the Voigtländer) There is close to zero distorsion The resistance to flare is below average with systematic flare when facing the sun Chromatic aberrations can be observed The sunstars (18 pointed) are not very well defined There is not yet a Lightroom profile for this lens, but this should come in coming months.
Pros
  • High quality plastic and rubberized focusing ring
  • Very good rendering in very good with beautiful background blur
Cons
  • AF is sometimes hunting as you can see in the video
  • No clickless aperture
