Product Overview

SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lens is one of four compact prime lenses designed to excel at both stills and video for the full-frame Sony E-mount and Leica L-mount systems.
Designated as the "I" series, the new series of compact lenses feature a gorgeous all-metal design that optimizes the manual focus experience in autofocus lenses. Each comes with an aluminum lens cap and petal-type lens hood.
Despite their compact sizes, these lenses are designed to minimize optical aberrations, with the only tradeoff being the moderate maximum aperture. Still, SIGMA designed these lenses to deliver sharp images wide open.
The three other lenses in this new series include the 24mm F3.5 DG DN, 35mm F2 DG DN, and 65mm F2 DG DN lenses.

External Reviews

digitalpicture[1]

Reviewer score 70% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitalpicture have found:
, this round hood has a solid, ribbed (inside and out) metal construction. This lens ships with Sigma's standard (nice) center- and side-pinch lens cap. By f/4, it is difficult to discern a sharpness difference between these lenses. The lens that seems most comparable is the 5mm wider and 1/3 stop faster Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G Lens.
Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Very affordable
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Limited focus distance limit switch

pcmag[2]

Sigma's 45mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary is among the company's first native designs for full-frame mirrorless systems. Focus is available as close as 9.5 inches (24cm), which is good for 1:4 life-size magnification. There is minimal change to the angle of view when moving from close focus to infinity.
Pros
  • Sharp f/2.8 aperture
  • Quick autofocus
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Pincushion distortion
  • No fluorine ring
