cnet[1]
Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)The HP Envy 17 has a quad-core Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor and Nvidia GeForce MX330 graphics. It has a thin profile, but it still weighs a not-insubstantial 6 pounds (2.7 kg) The touchpad and keyboard feel quite nice, and there's a standalone fingerprint sensor.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Decent battery life
- Comfortable keyboard and touchpad
Cons
- Not as bright as other 17-inch laptops
laptopmag[2]
Reviewer score 47% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Envy 17 transcoded a 4K video to 1080p on our HandBrake benchmark in 22 minutes and 23 seconds. On our Dirt 3 benchmark, the Envy averaged 105 frames per second, which flies over the 65-fps premium laptop average. The machine continuously surfed the web over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness for only 6 hours and 12 minutes.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Solid 4K display
- Comfortable keyboard
Cons
- Short battery life
- Mediocre speakers
notebookcheck[3]
Reviewer score 59% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Envy 17 runs quietly even under load, to the extent that we can hardly hear it unless we are in a quiet room. Surface temperatures on our review unit reach only 27.4 °C at idle and 42.6 °C under load. The 512 GB Intel SSD delivered acceptable read and write speeds in the benchmarks that we conducted, the results of which you can view below. The GeForce MX250 has 2 GB of VRAM, but HP also sells a 4 GB version.
Pros
- Matte IPS display
- Good battery life
- Decent input devices
Cons
- Mediocre graphics performance
pcmag[4]
Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)The HP Envy 17 is a decent desktop replacement laptop. Its bulk and its build quality shouldn't be issues if it spends most of its time on your desk. It offers typing comfort, an excellent optional 4K display, and adequate performance and connectivity. If big-screen performance is what you're after, you can get more bang for your buck by choosing a 17-inch gaming laptop.
Pros
- Sleek, minimalist design
- Solid keyboard and touchpad
- Optional 4K display
- Good battery life
Cons
- No Thunderbolt 3 port
pcworld[5]
Reviewer score 51% (normalized by Neofiliac)The HP Envy 17t's 55Whr battery is tiny for a laptop of this size. It's no match for a 17-inch display at 4K resolution. The fingerprint reader is also a bit of a letdown. At $1,590 as reviewed, it is more affordable than Dell's XPS 17.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Large 4K screen
- Good battery life
Cons
- Lackluster graphics performance
