Product Overview

The Late-2020 MacBook Pro 13 is the first MacBook Pro to feature Apple's proprietary M1 chip, which delivers the largest boost in performance in MacBook history: 2.8x faster CPU, 5x faster GPU, and 11x faster ML performance.
Beyond the performance boost, the new MacBook Pro 13 is able to deliver up to 2x the battery life of its predecessor, thanks to the efficiency of the new M1 chip.
The Late-2020 MacBook Pro 13 is essentially the same in dimensions (same width and depth), performance (same chipset, memory, SSD, display, and I/O), and price as the new MacBook Air.

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found the following***:
The 2,560 x 1,600 “Retina” display is sharp, bright, and color-precise. The M1 chip allows Apple to do the audio processing all on its own. Unlike most laptops, it's actually a joy to listen to music on the MacBook Pro 13-inch M1.

Reviewers from macworld have found the following***:
Apple claims the M1 Mac is better at managing the power it uses, which means better battery life. The M1 MacBook Pro fills out the lower-end of Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro lineup. If the FaceTime camera and the two ports aren’t enough to temper the excitement, maybe this one issue will.

Pros
  • Sleek, sturdy design
  • Improved performance
  • Improved battery life
Cons
  • Only one external display

Reviewers from notebookcheck have found the following***:
macOS even runs a bit better on the new M1 processor and almost all app for Intel Macs we have tried worked without any problems. The MacBook Pro 13 M1 is always equipped with the faster 8-core version of the iGPU, while the entry-level Air is also available with a less powerful 7-core iGPU. The synthetic benchmark performance is pretty much identical to the MacBook Air.

Cons
  • No Thunderbolt 3

Reviewers from pcmag have found the following***:
The M1 is by far Apple's best-performing processor. Macs are not typically the platform of choice for 3D gaming. With the M1, the MacBook Pro could serve as a decent option for casual gamers. The MacBook Pro remains a workhorse if you want a compact laptop that is still powerful.

Reviewers from t3 have found the following***:
The MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) is an exciting laptop. It's also one of the most powerful the company has ever made. Add in the longest battery life seen in a MacBook and you have an absolutely excellent laptop that excels in numerous ways. If you're looking for a cleverly designed workstation laptop that's slim and easily portable, then this is a splendid investment. However, if you don't need a laptop for that, and want a day-to-day work and photo editing of a bit of light and even photo editing, then you may be overkill.

Pros
  • Powerful M1 processor
  • Long battery life
  • Excellent performance
Cons
  • Only two Thunderbolt 3 ports

techradar[6]

Reviewers from techradar have found the following***:
The MacBook Pro 13-inch (M1, 2020) runs silently thanks to its fanless design. It does kick in after a while when you're doing some strenuous work on the device. The laptop also gets rather warm towards the back at times. However, the fans don't ever get too distracting, and for day to day use you'll never hear them. The M1 chip can beat powerful Intel 11th gen chips, and it proved to be correct.

Pros
  • Powerful M1 chip
  • Long battery life
  • Decent webcam
Cons
  • Fanless design
  • No Thunderbolt 3

The MacBook Pro 2020's Iris Plus graphics are perfectly suitable for photo editing and video editing. The MacBook Pro's battery life is really strong given all the power you're getting under the hood. If you want to stick with Intel and have four Thunderbolt 3 ports instead of two, the MacBook Pro is a great choice.
