Product Overview

Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 are premium wireless headphones with active noise cancellation. For the first time in the industry, the Surface Headphones 2 offer 13 levels of adjustable noise cancellation, accessible via the on-ear dial (left ear). The dial on the right ear piece allows the user to adjust the volume easily.
The lightweight ear pads and the over-ear design make the Surface Headphones 2 comfortable for all-day listening, and their 20-hour battery life make it possible, while advanced microphones in the Surface Headphones 2 allow for clear and loud phone calls.

androidauthority[1]

Reviewer score 84% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from androidauthority have found:
The new Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 rely on Bluetooth 5.0 firmware and support aptX and SBC. These headphones also have the best multipoint setup I've ever seen. They have a built-in microphone for calls and video conferences, and I never experienced any stutters or drops during my usage.
Pros
  • Excellent noise-cancelling
  • Excellent battery life
  • Comfortable fit
Cons
  • No aptX or SBC support
  • No wireless charging

cnet[2]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
Microsoft's Surface Headphones 2 are among the better headphones for working from home. The noise-canceling headphones are comfortable and work well for making voice calls. They're designed to easily connect to Windows computers (they now feature Bluetooth 5.0 instead of Bluetooth 4.2), which can be notoriously finicky when pairing.
Pros
  • Comfortable fit
  • Improved battery life
  • Improved Bluetooth
Cons
  • Sound quality could be better

digitaltrends[3]

Reviewer score 79% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
At $350, the Microsoft Surface Headphones were outclassed by their competitors. Now, with a $250 price tag and a small gain in battery life, they merit serious consideration. They have less battery life than the competition, but with great sound, comfort, and ANC, they've found their niche.
Pros
  • Great build quality
  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent call quality
Cons
  • No wireless charging
  • No aptX Bluetooth support

laptopmag[4]

Reviewer score 90% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from laptopmag have found:
Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 deliver rich, balanced audio that doesn't lean too heavily on the bass. The soundstage is so forward-facing, I felt like I was right in front of the performers. The adjustable ANC and Ambient Noise Control allow you to control how little or how much noise you let into your sanctum.
Pros
  • Sleek, stylish design
  • Comfortable, comfortable fit
  • Accurate, detailed audio
Cons
  • Wonky connection
  • Not as comfortable as the Bose

rtings[5]

Reviewer score 47% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from rtings have found:
The Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 are passable for neutral sound. They have a bass-heavy, boomy sound with an underemphasized treble range out-of-the-box. You can tweak this sound profile by using their companion app's graphic EQ or presets. Their 16-hour battery life can also easily get you through your workday.
Pros
  • Great, adjustable active noise cancelling
  • Comfortable, lightweight design
  • 16-hour battery life
  • Excellent, easy-to-use controls
Cons
  • Poor microphone recording quality
  • Mediocre audio delivery

t3[6]

Reviewer score 82% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from t3 have found:
Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 are wireless, noise-cancelling over-ear headphones. Built-in touch controls are beautifully integrated and a pleasure to use. Bass response is much improved, but treble isn't as good as it should be. 20 hours between charges should be ample for more-or-less any circumstance.
Pros
  • Well-judged noise-cancelling
  • Excellent build quality
  • Excellent battery life
Cons
  • Not the best treble sound

techradar[7]

Reviewer score 87% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 offer a 20-hour battery life, an improvement of five hours compared to their predecessors. You can turn the left dial backwards and forward to control the level of noise cancellation, while the right dial controls the volume of your music. Tapping once on either housing stops or starts your music, while two taps skips to the next track, and three taps take you back to the previous song. A long tap on either touchpad will activate the voice assistant on your device.
Pros
  • Excellent noise cancellation
  • Good battery life
  • Comfortable fit
Cons
  • No aptX codec support
  • Noise cancellation could be better

theverge[8]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from theverge have found:
The built-in mics pick up your voice well whether you're on a call or telling your phone's digital helper to play a certain song. Microsoft has boosted battery life to 20 hours with noise cancellation enabled. The overall mix is less dynamic than I'd like, with instruments and vocals smushed together a bit.
Pros
  • Excellent multipoint Bluetooth support
  • Excellent sound signature
  • Great battery life
Cons
  • No hands-free voice controls
  • Mediocre sound quality

tomsguide[9]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
The Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 is a worthy successor that does a fine job of combining dynamic audio and smart features into a functional, aesthetically appealing design. The noise-cancelling mics make a huge difference and block out a large amount of background noise. Bluetooth range is solid too, granting about 40 feet of wireless listening from your audio source.
Pros
  • Great sound quality
  • Great battery life
  • Great noise cancellation
Cons
  • Battery life could be better
  • No multi-device pairing

trustedreviews[10]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
Microsoft has kept the rotary dials to cycle through volume and ANC levels. There’s Swift Pair functionality for Windows 10 PCs, and you can connect to at least two devices at once. The sides of earcups also act as a surface for touch controls, so taps or swipes can play/pause or skip forward/back respectively.
Pros
  • Comfortable fit
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • Mediocre noise isolation
  • Lack of detail
