Product Overview
Microsoft Surface Book 3 15 is a flagship 2-in-1 15-inch laptop with exceptionally powerful internals and the unique set of flexibility pioneered by the original Surface Book. Powered by 10th-gen Intel Core Ice Lake processors and strong NVIDIA graphics, included ISV-certified Quadro 3000, the Surface Book 3 15 delivers 50% more performance than its predecessor and up to 17.5 hours of battery life.
As usual, the Surface Book 3 is also a powerful tablet with detachable touchscreen and a mobile workstation. With the Surface Pen and Surface Dial, it makes for three powerful device in one.
Moreover, the Surface Book 3 15 is a strong option for casual gaming, thanks not only to its powerful components but also support for the Xbox Wireless controller and compatible headset.

androidauthority[1]
Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)Microsoft's industrial design of the Surface line is so unique, it's hard to find anything else quite like it. Because the laptop has two separate batteries, it lasts for a really long time in laptop mode. While many laptop webcams are terrible, Microsoft used a 1080p-capable 5MP webcam for the front camera.
Pros
- Unique industrial design
- Incredible battery life
- Great keyboard
Cons
- No Thunderbolt 3
cnet[2]
Reviewer score 54% (normalized by Neofiliac)Even docked to the keyboard with the discrete GPU, real-world performance is sub-stellar. It feels held back by the quad-core processor; given its speed, it's likely running at 15 watts. Still, for general-purpose use with a little bit of a graphics kick, it serves quite well.
Pros
- Comfortable keyboard
- Three-way operation
- Good battery life
Cons
- Sub-par performance
- No Thunderbolt 3
laptopmag[3]
Reviewer score 74% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Surface Book 3 is the only device to offer a genuine laptop and tablet in one package. It has a gorgeous design, powerful discrete graphics and an extremely comfortable keyboard. On the back of the tablet is a capable 8MP camera, but it flounders in extreme lighting conditions.
Pros
- Sleek, premium design
- Powerful performance
- Comfortable keyboard
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- Poor performance in tablet mode
- No kickstand for viewing content
notebookcheck[4]
Reviewer score 66% (normalized by Neofiliac), the new OS drive is significantly slower and the Surface Book 3's competition tends to implement significantly faster solutions as well. Although variants with 512 GB or even 1 TB are also available, the price gaps are very big and it is unclear whether Microsoft uses models from other manufacturers in these higher-end configurations. Despite being equipped with the strongest integrated Intel graphics card Iris Plus Graphics G7, the Surface also comes with a dedicated GPU.
Pros
- Matte IPS display
- High-quality case
- Good battery life
- Fast SSD
Cons
- Slow CPU performance
- No dedicated GPU
pcmag[5]
Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Surface Book 3 is an ambitious device that seeks to combine the best qualities of all three current laptop genres into a do-it-all machine. Digital artists and on-the-go professionals who need the flexibility of a detachable tablet and some significant graphics horsepower will probably appreciate it most. If you're on a more reasonable budget, though, the SurfaceBook 3 isn't for you.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Excellent keyboard and touchpad
- High-resolution display
- Good battery life
Cons
- Battery life could be better
- No Thunderbolt 3 port
theverge[6]
Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Surface Book 3 is essentially a very large tablet with stylus support. It docks into a keyboard base that includes a powerful GPU and a second battery. At just shy of two pounds, it's surprisingly lightweight if not a little unwieldy. The Surface Pro design is far better if you're interested in drawing / tablet functionality.
Pros
- Slim, lightweight design
- Solid performance
- Good battery life
Cons
- Display wobble
- No kickstand
tomsguide[7]
Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)The Surface Book 3's U-series processor doesn't really compare well to the H-series chips in the XPS 15 and 16-inch MacBook Pro. On the Handbrake video conversion test, it completed the task in 21 minutes and 31 seconds. It lasted 11 hours and 10 minutes on our battery test, but only 3 hours and 27 minutes when its battery-bolstered keyboard was detached.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Solid performance
- Excellent battery life
Cons
- No 4K display
tomshardware[8]
Reviewer score 76% (normalized by Neofiliac)The $2,299.99 base model has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 13.5-inch variant starts at $1,599.99 with a Core i5-1035G7 with Iris Plus graphics. Microsoft's Surface line is about as clean as Windows 10 gets on laptops.
Pros
- Sleek design
- Solid performance
- Good battery life
Cons
- Mediocre webcam
- No Thunderbolt 3
