Product Overview
Porsche Cayenne Mk3 (Typ 9Y0) is a mid-size crossover in production from 2017. It is available with a range of V6 and V8 engines that displaced 2.9 to 4.0 liters.
The plug-in hybrid drivetrain can help the owner save on fuel and car tax, though those who plan on keeping the car after warranty should be mindful of the complexity.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, will appreciate the approach, departure, and breakover angles that the chassis offers. The official fuel economy ratings of the hybrids are exceptionally rosy, though they may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Porsche Cayenne III comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.

Reviewer score 84%The Turbo GT is an agreeable daily driver if you can stomach 20mpg and 319g/km. The 4.0-litre engine is up by 89bhp and 52lb ft over the regular Cayenne turbo. It gets active roll control, torque vectoring by braking, ceramic brake discs and rear-wheel steer all as standard, as well as three-chamber air springs.

- Powerful V8
- Lots of refinement
Cons
- No twin-clutch

Reviewer score 68%The Cayenne E-Hybrid is being launched with a brief of stealing sales from Audi’s Q7 e-tron and Range Rover P400e. Power comes from a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine mated to an electric motor, giving a combined 456bhp and 516lb ft of torque. You can travel up to 27 miles on electric power alone, hit a top speed of 84mph and cover the 0-60mph sprint in 4.7sec.

- Powerful electric motor
- Lots of standard equipment
Cons
- Pricier than rivals
- Cheap to run

Reviewer score 74%Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is now a more resolved prospect than petrol-electric Cayennes of old. It feels more like the Swiss army knife it's marketed as - a convincing hybrid with (almost) no day-to-day compromises in the pursuit of efficient performance. With an impeccably finished cabin, cleverly integrated tech and plenty of space, it’s a very satisfying package. It’ll even tow (unlike many hybrids) thanks to the torque converter ‘box.

- Excellent infotainment tech
Cons
- Pricier than rivals
- No Cayenne diesel in the plan
autocar[4]
Reviewer score 74%This is the Porsche Cayenne GTS Coupé (you don’t have to have the coupé; the regular SUV bodystyle is available as well) It’s designed to sit between the ‘regular’ line-up and the Turbo models. Here that means it gets a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol V8 engine.

Pros
- Lots of fun to drive
- Lots of standard equipment
Cons
- No power steering
- Pricier than rivals
autocar[5]
Reviewer score 73%Porsche denies that diesels have been ruled out of all future models. But it does say the entire strategy is "under review" So don’t hold your breath. You’d have thought Porsche would just transfer the powertrain from the Panamera hybrid straight over. But no, the hybrid powertrains in a Panamera and this Cayenne are related but by no means the same.

Pros
- Porsche PDK dual-clutch gearbox
- Excellent off-roading
Cons
- No diesel option
autocar[6]
Reviewer score 79%The new Cayenne range weighs an average of 60kg less than the second-generation line-up. Porsche’s largest model remains a pretty portly beast; kerb weight is at 2,020kg in S guise. Despite this considerable bulk, that V6 is capable of shifting the Cayenne S to 62mph from a standstill in just 5.2sec and on to a top speed of 164mph.

Pros
- Powerful V6 engine
- Comfortable to drive
- Impressive handling
Cons
- Pricier than rivals
autocar[7]
Reviewer score 77%The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is the most powerful and fastest Cayenne of all time, more powerful and torquier than even the Lamborghini Urus. It has 671bhp, 664lb ft and a top speed of 183mph. The plug-in hybrid system is also rated as one of the cleanest SUVs around, capable of 25 miles on electric power alone.

Pros
- Powerful V8 engine
- Powerful hybrid system
- Impressive fuel economy
Cons
- Pricier than the Cayenne Turbo
autocar[8]
Reviewer score 56%The car starts in electric mode, and once you’re up and running, it will look to switch off the engine as much as possible. In this sense, the Turbo S E-Hybrid is as easily driveable as any comparably big SUV, only with more accurate steering. The problem is that the weight remains ever present and even the carbon-ceramic, 10-piston brakes and very neatly controlled body movements can’t mitigate it.

- Impressive chassis tech
- Superb handling
Cons
- Pricier than other Cayenne models
- Alternatives are more fun to drive
autoexpress[9]

Reviewer score 84%If you're in the market for a non-electrified Cayenne, this is the one we'd go for. It has that great duality that you find in the best performance SUVs, being able to perform as a comfortable cruiser and, with the flick of a switch, an entertainer. Just watch yourself on the options list.

Reviewer score 80%The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is the thinking person's performance SUV. With the sonorous V8 filling your ears and the silent force of electric power providing an added kick, it's like being in a jet airliner getting pushed along by a tailwind. Porsche also deploys plenty of tech to keep the driver out of ditches – an important consideration when said driver is wielding 670 horses.
