External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The X7 shares the recently renewed X5’s platform, but is substantially bigger than that car. It occupies a footprint 5.15m long and 2.0m wide less door mirrors. The X5 shares the same width, but come in at 4.92mlong and 1.75m high. The boot is bigger than you’ll find behind the third row of seats some seven-seaters, but for truly usable space you can drop both rows.
Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Impressive infotainment system
Cons
  • Not hugely quick
  • No automatic gearbox

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The BMW X7 is large, luxurious and filled with the latest technology. A range of powerful engines are offered and while it's not the cheapest to run, the X7 drives far better than you'd expect for a car of its considerable size and weight. A Volvo XC90 will be cheaper to own and the Land Rover Discovery is a better all-rounder, but it's hard to ignore the BMW's great blend of quality, luxury and high-tech equipment.
Pros
  • Powerful engines
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • Cheap to run
  • Not the most efficient

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 83% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The X7 comes as standard with seven seats. Row two can be moved forwards and back by up to 14.5cm. The seat backs also split 60/40 as standard. Row three also includes Isofix child-seat mounting points. With all three rows raised, the boot is smaller than a Golf's at 326 litres.
Pros
  • Powerful petrol engines
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • No off-road capability

carwow[4]

Reviewer score 88% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carwow have found:
The BMW X7 is arguably more imposing than the upmarket SUVs it competes with, the Land Rover Discovery, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLS. Inside, things are more restrained, but suitably high quality. You'll find plenty of piano black, leather and metal surfaces. Infotainment systems don't get better than BMW's iDrive, though.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Expensive for what you get
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

cnet[5]

Reviewer score 77% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
With a bump-soaking air suspension system, it's easy to dig the X7. It's still plenty great on the highway, too, floating along and providing a plush ride. The infotainment screen houses the latest version of BMW's iDrive system. The X7's interior is a little less vault-like than expected.
Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Comfortable ride
  • Excellent infotainment
Cons
  • Lane-keep assist is a little heavy
  • No street names

digitaltrends[6]

Reviewer score 81% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
-liter twin-turbo V8 churning out 456 hp and 579 lb-ft of torque. Zero to 60 mph takes 5.2 seconds, according to BMW. Handling is amazingly precise for such a big vehicle, although the X7 definitely feels more comfortable cruising along a highway than being hustled down a winding road.
Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of standard features

topgear[7]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from topgear have found:
The X7 starts out well-equipped: three rows of electric seats, air suspension, 21s, full connected cockpit, LED active headlights. The £2,500 M Sport pack is cosmetics and betterbrakes. You'll probably want to add the tech pack, £3,150, which is a superb HUD, Harman Kardon speakers and some extra driving assistance including adaptive cruise. All it lacks is specialness of ambience and refined ability on poor surfaces.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Superb infotainment system
  • Comfortable ride
Cons
  • Lack of standard equipment
  • Uncomfortable to ride
