Sentiment Score 68%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
Top-spec Z4 M40i costs from just over £49,000 – closer in price to the standard Boxster than the higher-powered S. Below that sits the Z4 sDrive20i and the sDrive30i (£40,690) All are rear-wheel drive and come with an eight-speed auto box, although the base model will get a six-speed manual at a later date. The Z4's chassis is impressive; the turn-in is razor sharp and the front end devoid of understeer.

Pros
  • Stylish looks
  • Impressive infotainment system
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • No six-speed manual
  • Poor steering

Sentiment Score 80%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The cheapest and least potent version of the new Z4 is also the most satisfying model to drive. Lighter than the more expensive M40i by a full 130kg, it steers and handles more sweetly than its big brother, plus it's cleaner and comes with plenty of equipment. The UK range starts at £36,990 for the sDrive20i Sport.

Pros
  • Powerful engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment
Cons
  • Not quite as powerful as its predecessor

Sentiment Score 58%
Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
BMW has ditched the hard-top for a lighter canvas lid, which folds away in 10 seconds at up to 31mph. This M40i version of the Z4 is certainly fast, and like all modern M cars, it'll top out at 155mph. In our experience, though, the lighter, cheaper Z4 sDrive20i is likely to be the pick of the range for most buyers.

Pros
  • Gorgeous interior
  • Fantastic eight-speed automatic box
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Lacklustre engine and gearbox
  • Lack of grip in Sport mode
