Sony's X900H is a fantastic TV with an excellent picture. It's not as good as an OLED, but I thought it handled these deep-black scenarios exceptionally well. Its built-in speakers aren't bad, and Sony makes a big deal about the down-firing speakers.

    Pros
    • Dolby Vision Bright is an absolute joy to watch
    • Excellent picture quality
    • Built-in speakers
    Cons
    • No HDMI 2.1 support
    • Not as good as an OLED

The X900H measured the best (lowest) input lag of any Sony TV yet, at around 15 milliseconds in Game mode for both 1080p and 4K HDR. In brighter, more natural shots like the snowy mountains and the hot springs, the Sony narrowed the gap, although brightness in highlights and in larger bright areas like clouds and snow lagged the TCL.

The Sony X900H has one of the best picture quality to price ratios you'll find this year. It's not as jaw-droppingly stunning as Sony's A8H OLED, but it delivers a similarly satisfying cinematic experience for a fraction of the price. For gamers seeking immediate gratification, I would suggest looking at the Samsung Q90T.

It can also control a wide variety of smart home devices that work with either Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant. It stands alongside the Samsung HU8000 and Vizio M-Series Quantum lines as the brightest of the three. It's generally balanced and shows solid black levels, but it's quite expensive.

The KD-75XH9005 has a huge amount of screen, surrounded by minimal bezels of impressive build quality and finish. It has some areas of true picture-making prowess, it sounds better than the bulk of TVs at any price, and it's a most effective upscaler of sub-4K material. If you can live without HDR10+ compatibility and the Apple TV+ app, it's as good a 75-inch TV as this sort of money will currently buy.

Sony KD-XH9005 is one of the best 4K TVs on the market. Pictures are crisp and packed with information, but with none of the restlessness of edges, graininess or picture noise that can sometimes accompany this level of insight. Skin-tones and -textures are completely convincing, whether the actor in possession of them is wearing pancake makeup or not. The KD-65XH9005 is equipped with Sony's Acoustic Multi-Audio sound technology in the form of a pair of full-range drivers on the underside of the frame. The aim is to improve audio clarity – something this system achieves. Listening to Deadpool, there's a sense that the audio has a far easier journey on the way to the listener. The effects in the Deadpool freeway crash are delivered at appropriate scale, and when the action freezes and the noise drops, the silence is absolute.
