Product Overview

The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm F/2.8 S is the first in Nikon's trinity professional f/2.8 zoom lens lineup for the newly-introduced Z-mount mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system. Thanks for decreased flange distance and enlarged throat diameter, Nikon manages to improve the optical performance of this lens vis-à-vis its F-mount DSLR predecessors while making it smaller (18.4% shorter) and lighter (24.7%).
Nikon has also given the Z 24-70mm F/2.8 S a new, modern design with features such as faster autofocus, an OLED information panel, and a customizable button.

Reviewers from dpreview have found:
The 24-70mm F2.8 S is a fantastic lens that really delivers on the promise of mirrorless. Like the previous AF-S lens, there's still a degree of lateral chromatic aberration, but it's easily corrected for in post-processing with the included profile. It's an excellent lens for everything from landscapes to portraiture, and if you're a Z-mount shooter who can stretch your budget, it definitely deserves a place in your camera bag.
Pros
  • Super-handy OLED display
  • Excellent sharpness
  • Excellent image quality
Cons
  • No optical image stabilization
  • Lateral chromatic aberration

The Nikon Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is an absolutely killer zoom. It delivers exceptional sharpness, even when paired with a demanding, high-resolution image sensor. If the lens has an optical flaw it's the vignette. The lens is protected from weather and the fluorine coating makes it easier to keep clean.
Pros
  • Excellent sharpness
  • Excellent fluorine coating
  • Dust and splash protection
Cons
  • Vignette effect is noticeable at f/2.8

The NIKKOR Z 24–70mm f/2.8 S is an impressive lens. Build quality and attention to detail are both excellent. Handling and operation are very positive too, with the provision of the control ring and L-Fn button for additional control. Sharpness on the whole is excellent, particularly across the frame, particularly at 70mm.
Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Excellent sharpness
  • Weather sealing
Cons
  • Lateral chromatic aberration
  • Lateral vignetting
