Product Overview

Sony a6100 is a mirrorless camera in the Sony E-mount system. Introduced by Sony in 2019, it comes with an APS-C sensor with 24 MP (6000 x 4000) resolution and a 1.44 million-dot EVF.
The camera has a usable battery life, though a second battery may be a good thing to keep in your camera bag. The 11.0 fps burst rate serves enthusiasts well enough, though some professionals may find it limiting.

Reviewers from cameralabs have found:
The Sony A6100 is an upper entry-level mirrorless camera with a 24 Megapixel APSC sensor, 4k video, 11fps shooting, viewfinder and tilting touchscreen. Announced in August 2019, it’s the official successor to the five and a half year old A6000, bringing that model up to date with Sony's latest features, especially regarding AF and video which are almost the same as the flagship A6600. Spending $300 extra over the original A6000 gets you the A6 100 with a touch sensitive and flips all the way up to face you, a broader and more confident autofocus system, 1080 slow motion, unlimited recording times and a microphone input.
Pros
  • 4k video, unlimited recording
  • Weather-sealing
  • S-Log movie profiles
Cons
  • Lower resolution viewfinder

Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
For an entry-level mirrorless camera, the A6100 is hard to beat. Image quality, while not a dramatic step forward, has improved thanks to better JPEG processing. Real-Time Tracking and Eye AF leads the competition. Sony's menu system remains as dense and obtuse as ever.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Real-Time Eye AF
  • Fast autofocus
Cons
  • No 5-axis stabilization
  • Limited video options

Reviewers from gizmodo have found:
The Sony a6100 isn't perfect, but it offers so many good things for such a low price that it turns into a deal that's difficult to reject. Right now there are few mirrorless APS-C cameras that offer the same for that price. While its sensor is not full frame, the A6100 has demonstrated that it can handle itself more than well in dark situations.
Pros
  • Incredibly fast autofocus
  • Excellent manual controls
  • Excellent image stabilization
Cons
  • Pricey for an APS-C camera

pcmag[4]

Reviewer score 71% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from pcmag have found:
The Sony a6100 is a compact, speedy camera with strong image quality and excellent autofocus. It captures high-quality 4K footage at your choice of 24 or 30fps at a 100Mbps recording rate. Video quality is excellent, but the older image sensor's slower readout means that 60fps 4K isn't an option.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent autofocus performance
  • Good battery life
Cons
  • No 4K video
  • No touch LCD

techradar[5]

Reviewer score 80% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from techradar have found:
The Sony A6100 is arguably the most enticing camera in Sony's A6000 series today. Image quality and autofocus are also on a par with the more expensive Sony A6400 and Sony A6600. Despite the Bionz X processor, the limitations of a UHS-I SD card slot are clear. The main gripes that we have of all A6XXX series cameras – mainly handling and less forgivable on the flagship models – are here.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality and autofocus
  • Excellent battery life
  • Excellent build quality
Cons
  • No UHS-II card slot

tomsguide[6]

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from tomsguide have found:
Sony's a6100 has a bright, relatively crisp OLED electronic viewfinder. The camera's LCD is a touch screen, but only in a limited sense. The main menu features six tabs, each with multiple submenus. The Record button is recessed into a corner at the upper rear of the camera.
Pros
  • Bright, clear OLED viewfinder
  • Excellent image quality
  • Compact, sturdy design
Cons
  • Lackluster autofocus
  • Disappointing rear LCD

trustedreviews[7]

Reviewer score 86% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from trustedreviews have found:
The a6100’s 24.2-megapixel sensor captures 6000 x 4000 pixel images that will produce beautifully detailed prints at up to A2 size. It offers 13 Picture Effects, six Creative Style modes and contrast/sharpness/saturation tweaks, but I tend to avoid and shoot in Standard mode and/or Raw. It can capture up to 120fps Full HD video, which is excellent for grabbing slow-mo moments.
Pros
  • Excellent image quality
  • Excellent autofocus
  • Excellent video quality
Cons
  • No in-body stabilisation
