Lotus Cars Limited is a British automotive company that manufactures sports cars and racing cars noted for their lightweight designs.
In its early days, Lotus achieved considerable success in racing, winning Formula One Constructor's Championship 7 times in the 1960s and 1970s.

History

Founded in 1952 as Lotus Engineering Ltd., the company could trace back to 1948 when its co-founder Colin Chapman built his first racing car. Early Lotus vehicles could be purchased as kit cars. From the 1970s, Lotus offered only factory-built vehicles. It also went upmarket in the same time period.
In 1986, Lotus was sold to General Motors. Then company changed hands a couple of times until the Chinese automotive company Geely acquire a majority stake in 2017.

Current Lineup

The current vehicle lineup of Lotus comprises of three compact sports cars, Elise, Exige, and Evora. All models are equipped with a Toyota-sourced engine in a mid-engine RWD layout.
A fully-electric supercar, the Evija has been unveiled is set to be available in 2020.
