Currently, Tesla is the world's best-selling electric passenger car manufacturer. It enjoys technological leadership in battery technology, charging, and autonomous driving. Currently its vehicle lineup comprises the Model S and Model 3 sedans and the Model X and Model Y crossovers (SUVs). The models are so named to spell "S3XY": Elon Musk, the founder of Telsa, originally wanted the first three models to spell "SEX", but Ford already trademarked "Model E".
Tesla acquired SolarCity in 2016 to become a major player in the US solar energy market.
