Product Overview

Audi SQ8 (F1/4M) is the performance variant of the Q8 large crossover in production from 2019. It debuted with a 4.0 TDI engine, which was supplanted by a 4.0 TFSI unit as VW discontinued its V8 diesel production.
Compared to the SQ7, the SQ8 is marketed to be more "exclusive", perhaps as Audi expected the number of consumers with questionable tastes would be low. In reality, consumers purchasing performance crossovers already have questionable tastes, and the SQ8 is just perfect for them with the hunchback design.
Those who drive offroad, for work or leisure, need to think twice before pulling the trigger: the Audi SQ8 is hardly the "offroader" that Audi would like you to think. Another negative is the large 13.3m (43.6ft) turning circle.

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The SQ8’s air suspension is capable adjusting ride height through 90mm of travel between its lowest and highest settings. That fact, combined with those clever anti-roll bars and the proper, centre-diff based four-wheel drive, ought to make the car pretty capable off road. Those looking for the biggest, loudest, fastest, most exciting bombastic 4x4 for the money should probably apply elsewhere.

Pros
  • Gorgeous looks
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of standard equipment

  • Not the best off road performance
  • Not the most comfortable to drive

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
SQ8 makes a slightly detuned but still very hearty 500bhp. It causes the car’s 0-62mph dash to tumble from 4.8- to 4.1sec. It also makes WLTP lab-test fuel economy tumble from 36.2mpg to 22.1-.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Lots of tech
Cons
  • Not the most comfortable to drive

autoexpress[3]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The new Audi SQ8 TFSI moves away from diesel refinement and frugality, which strengthens its principles as a performance SUV. It's slightly better to drive than the SQ7, but perhaps more importantly it risks making the RS Q8 redundant. It serves up similar straight-line performance as well as greater levels of comfort at a much cheaper price.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Sleek, sporty styling
Cons
  • More expensive than its predecessor
  • Alternatives are more fun to drive

Priced at €102,600 before options and from around £82,000 in the UK. High-tech diesel engine beams the battleship SQ8 from 0-62mph in just 4.8sec. Rear-wheel steering reduces the turning circle from 13.3 to 12.3 metres. Ride comfort varies from low-speed knotty to pleasantly composed.

Pros
  • High-tech diesel engine
  • Impressive ride quality

Cons
  • Lacklustre handling
  • High-end brakes

Reviewers from carwow have found the following***:
The Audi SQ8's cabin looks and feels uber posh. With launch control engaged, this near-2.4-tonne SUV will crack the 0-60mph sprint in less than 4.8 seconds. Standard-fit quattro all-wheel drive means the SQ8 won't be left floundering should you decide to take it across a few muddy fields.

Pros
  • Spacious cabin
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Superb infotainment
Cons
  • Not as practical as the Q7
  • No third row of seats
  • Not as comfortable as the SQ7

Reviewers from cnet have found the following***:
The 2020 Audi SQ8 is an expensive proposition, starting at $89,995 including destination. Audi's MMI Touch Response system is good -- so good, in fact, that when it debuted it won our Roadshow Shift Award for Cabin Tech of the Year. The adaptive cruise control is mighty smooth, with no major braking or acceleration events causing unwanted head bobs.

Pros
  • Smooth acceleration
  • Excellent infotainment system

Cons
  • Lackluster fuel economy
  • No USB-C ports
