Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The 1.6 TDI is the most expensive engine option, but it also provides the lowest CO2 rating in the range at 140g/km on the WLTP testing regime. Its power output is the same as that of the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol, but of course there’s plenty more torque, namely 184lb ft, rather than 129lb ft. This car should lug well, then, especially when laden with a family.

Pros
  • Punchy petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Lacklustre handling
  • Pricier than rivals

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
The T-Cross strikes the same mature and rounded impression on UK roads as it did elsewhere. While its driving experience is a little less vigorous for the inclusion of the 94bhp 1.0 TSI engine, it’s not one that seems particularly slow or frustrating. A sliding second-row bench is fitted as standard, which means you can trade off a bit of space in the good-sized boot for extra legroom or vice versa.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • Lack of refinement

autocar[3]

Reviewers from autocar have found the following***:
At 4.1m long the T-Cross is just a smidge longer than a VW Polo. In 1.5 R-Line trim that doesn’t stop it having a pre-option price of £27,785. The engine’s quiet and smooth but unenthusiastic if left in full auto mode.

Pros
  • Powerful petrol engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Pricier than rivals

Volkswagen T-Cross is smaller at the kerb than its main crossover-class rivals. VW dubs it ‘an urban SUV’ rather than an off-roader; there’s certainly no four-wheel-drive version. At launch, you can choose between a pair of 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engines.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment
Cons
  • No four-wheel-drive option
  • Pricier than rivals

The Volkswagen T-Cross is a small SUV that was first revealed as a concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It is Volkswagen's contribution to the hugely popular small SUV segment and went on sale in March 2019. Rivals include the Citroen C3 Aircross, Renault Captur and Mazda CX-3, as well as the other similarly sized models within the Volkswagen Group.

Pros
  • Comfortable to drive

  • Not the most comfortable to drive

autoexpress[6]

Reviewers from autoexpress have found the following***:
The T-Cross is an accomplished small urban crossover that drives well enough, and offers a decent level of space and tech. It also shouldn't cost too much to run, but there are rivals that do the same for less, yet sparkle more. At £19,555 in this most popular 1.0 TSI 115 SE spec, the price is palatable – even alongside the slightly cheaper SEAT Arona.

Pros

  • Cheap to run

The T-Cross was commended in the 2019 Auto Express Awards. It comes with enough safety kit – and a five-star rating from Euro NCAP. It's a nice and simple car to manoeuvre and it slips easily through the traffic. The Energetic Orange paint stood out in the supermarket car park.

The T-Cross Black Edition is a useful update to the line-up. It adds some additional styling touches for not much extra. It's a solid small SUV with some good tech – although we wish more of it was standard. However, we can't fault the excellent powertrain when it comes to refinement and performance.

The VW T-Cross is an easy-to-drive and practical family car with a high seating position. There's loads of room to stretch out in the front and the neat sliding rear seats mean there's space for six-footers to get comfy in the back. The controls are all nice and light so your arms won't tire of manoeuvring through tight city streets and you get plenty of advanced driver assistance systems as standard.

Pros
  • Easy-to-drive
