Product Overview

DS 9 is an affordable executive sedan in production from 2020. It is available with a range of petrol and PHEV drivetrains with the same inline-4 engine that displaced 1.6 liters.
Slotted to be the spiritual successor to the Citroen C6, the DS 9 has a somewhat bland styling and is designed to be sold primarily in China, where consumers have yet to realize that the French aren't very good at building cars.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, thanks to the PHEV aspect, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the DS 9 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 59% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
There isn’t really an entry-level 9: all cars are very well equipped with niceties such as matrix headlights and radar cruise. The plug-in hybrids all get DS Active Scan suspension, an infrared camera that looks down the road for irregularities and configures the adjustable shock absorbers to minimise them. The interior and instrumentation are well laid out and comprehensive, the cabin is spacious, rear leg room is very generous indeed and head room is fine everywhere.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of refinement

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 64% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The DS 9 is a big step for the French brand towards premium acceptance. With 28 boutique-style retail outlets across the UK, DS promises a different buying proposition. The ownership model has also been designed to ‘remove the pain points experienced by premium car customers,’ says DS's UK supremo, Jules Tilstone.
Pros
  • Stylish looks
  • Cheap to run
Cons
  • Not the best in class
  • Not the smoothest gearbox

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 62% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
-only mode, with 17 miles of EV range displayed on the digital driver's instrument panel. There's an E-Save mode which will hold 12 miles, six miles or all your e-power, should you need to bank it for zero emissions areas. Charging the battery pack on a 7kW wallbox takes just under two hours, or almost five hours from a domestic plug. It's the design inside and out that will make or break the DS 9.
Pros
  • Sleek styling
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • Noisy on motorway speeds
  • Noisy in traffic queues
