Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R172 is a compact convertible in production from 2011 to 2015, whereupon it received a facelift and became the SLC-Class. It was available with a range of inline-4, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 1.8 to 5.5 liters.
Compared to the R171 SLK, the R172 introduced a range of engine changes. Notably, the SLK55 adopted a M152 DOHC V8 with VVT based on the turbocharged M278 engine. Mercedes increased the displacement of the 4.7L M278 to 5.5L purely with a longer stroke and higher compression ratio. This is the final naturally-aspirated V8 engine by Mercedes. For this simple reason, the car could become a classic among enthusiasts.
Another notable change is the replacement of the M272 V6 by the M276, which finally addressed the former's balance shaft problem. All other engines were downsized to just 4 cylinders.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the Mercedes-Benz SLK R172 comes with multi-link suspensions at all four corners. This provides the best cornering performance and tunability, at the expense of cost and a little bit of durability.
