Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R171 is a compact hardtop convertible in production from 2003 to 2007, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 1.8 to 5.4 liters.
Successor to the R170 SLK that revived the hardtop convertible body style, the R171 is more modern and performs better. New is the AMG model powered by an M113 5.5L naturally-aspirated V8. One should note that this engine is not supercharged as found in the E55, CL55, SL55, and S55.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Mercedes SLK R171 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.
