Product Overview

Cadillac ELR is a mid-size coupe in production from 2014 to 2016. It was available with a single PHEV drivetrain with a small inline-4 petrol engine that displaced 1.4 liters.
Unlike the hybrids from Toyota, the ELR uses a more traditional CVT rather than an eCVT with power split. As such, it was a comparatively basic system in a not-so-well designed car.
The result of this is that the ELR wasn't a sales success, and Cadillac had to discontinue it without a successor.
The plug-in hybrid drivetrain can help the owner save on fuel and car tax, though those who plan on keeping the car after warranty should be mindful of the complexity. Utility-minded owners will have to keep in mind that the 297L (10cu-ft) cargo space may not be sufficient.
