Product Overview

Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class X253 is a compact crossover in production from 2015 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4, V6, and V8 engines that displaced 2.0 to 4.0 liters.
Compared to the lethargic GLK that preceded it, the X253 GLC added the latest 63AMG and 63AMG S variants that offer tremendous amount of power for a relatively small vehicle.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy for the hybrid vehicle, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Interestingly, Mercedes also introduced a hydrogen fuel cell model called F-CELL, though it is not widely available.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 63% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
As refined a ride as we’ve come to expect from the GLC, with the four-pot diesel able to deliver confident, if moderate progress. Even in entry-level Sport trim, there’s a largely premium feel to the cabin, which competes with the Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 for visual appeal. Those in search of a comfortable, well-appointed SUV would do well to put one near the top of their list.
Pros
  • Comfortable ride
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of dynamic handling
  • No digital instrument cluster

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
Mercedes GLC 250 petrol is aimed squarely at buyers nervy of diesel's demise. Using Mercedes' latest 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Official fuel economy of 37.2mpg puts it near enough 10mpg shy of the entry-level 220 d.
Pros
  • High-quality interior
  • Comfortable to drive
Cons
  • Fiddly infotainment system
  • Poor fuel economy

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 60% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The new GLA is dripping with high-tech features, possibly too many for the average Joe. While it's a little shorter, this new crossover is 104mm taller and the wheelbase has extended, growing rear space in particular by 116mm. The rear seats can recline and slide fore or aft up to 140mm and, if you slide them as far back as possible, it's at the expense of the 435 litres of boot space in the regular combustion engine variants.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • No manual transmission
  • Lacklustre gearbox tuning

cnet[4]

Reviewer score 53% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from cnet have found:
Benz has continued to update COMAND with new features, but the result is an interface that feels patched together. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration are also available, though they are an additional $350 upgrade. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC350e 4Matic EQ Power starts at $51,645, including a $995 destination charge.
Pros
  • Elegant styling
  • Comfortable ride
  • Good fuel economy
Cons
  • Lane-keeping assist can feel jerky and jarring
  • Poor driver's-aid tech

digitaltrends[5]

Reviewer score 85% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from digitaltrends have found:
The most affordable of the GLCs is the basic SUV, which rides very well over any kind of road. If you want something more nimble, go get an SLC roadster. The GLC really gets interesting when you come to the AMG models. The base GLC 300 SUV offers you up to 56.5 cubic feet of cargo space.
Pros
  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Excellent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lacks AWD
