Product Overview

Kia Sportage 4 (chassis code QL) is a compact crossover in production from 2016 to 2021. It was available with a range of inline-4 engines that displaced 1.6 to 2.4 liters.
Compared to the Mk3 Sportage, the Mk4 is akin to a facelift. The general styling barely changed, though a new drivetrain lineup became available. Notably, Kia added both a 7-speed DCT and an 8-speed automatic gearboxes. Together with more efficient engines, the Mk4 Sportage is more economical to run but not fundamentally different.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 40% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The Kia Sportage is the tenth best-selling new car in the UK. The 1.6-litre petrol engine gains a particulate filter to help meet emissions standards, but performance remains unchanged. Steering is consistent, but gives little in the way of driver feedback. The ride is on the firm side, becoming unsettled on rough stretches of road in a way that's felt in the cabin.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Lack of pace
  • No automatic gearbox

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The Sportage accounts for about 40 per cent of all Kia's UK sales. The facelift brings a new steering wheel, a revised driver's display and tweaked air con controls. The range-topping 2.0-litre diesel gets a new 48-volt electrical system which allows for a mild-hybrid assistance. It's the same 48V system found in the latest Hyundai Tucson, and is only available with four-wheel drive.
Pros
  • Fantastic infotainment system
  • Excellent range-topping tech
Cons
  • No four-wheel drive option

carmagazine[3]

Reviewer score 68% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The Kia Sportage First Edition is a marked step up for the company. It employs MacPherson struts up front and a multilink rear, all mounted on new hydro-formed subframes using bushings rather than solid mountings. The ride was on the firm side due to the 19-inch alloys our test car was fitted with, but the damping is exceptional. It's not feelsome in the way a Porsche Macan is, but it's closer to that end of the spectrum than it ever has been.
Pros
  • Sturdy build quality
  • Good standard equipment
Cons
  • Fiddly to operate
  • No automatic gearbox
