Product Overview

Volkswagen T-Roc is a subcompact crossover in production from 2017 to 2020, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.0 to 2.0 liters.
Essentially a jacked-up VW Golf, the T-Roc has a decent exterior design but no offroad capabilities or extra storage space, making it all hat and no cattle. It also uses semi-independent rear suspensions, which testifies to its lowly origins.

External Reviews

autocar[1]

Reviewer score 58% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autocar have found:
The T-Roc R joins the likes of the Audi SQ2, Cupra Ateca and BMW X2 M35i in the ever expanding performance crossover sphere. It is based on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture and makes use of the now ubiquitous EA888 turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor. A new aluminium subframe helps facilitate a far sportier suspension calibration and the uprated 17in performance brakes that are optional on the Golf R are thrown in as standard.
Pros
  • Powerful turbocharged 4.0-litre four-cylinder engine
  • Impressive handling
Cons
  • Lacklustre infotainment
  • Dull interior plastics

autoexpress[2]

Reviewer score 73% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The T-Roc gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Bluetooth, DAB radio and USB connectivity. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are fitted to SE models and above. The Ford Kuga, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008 should not be overlooked. A small number of engine and gearbox-related problems have been reported.
Pros
  • Fantastic safety kit
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Decent infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of space for six-footers
