Product Overview

Ford B-MAX is an entry-level subcompact minivan in production from 2012 to 2017. It was available with a range of inline-3 and inline-4 engines that displaced 1.0 to 1.6 liters.
Designed for the European market, the B-MAX is mechanically basic. It uses tiny engines with rather high boost but cost-cutting internals, a recipe for a short service life. The chassis and suspension design is basic and purely with cost in mind.
The official fuel economy rating is exceptionally rosy, though it may cast more doubts on the trustworthiness of the regulators and perhaps the owner's own sanity than it relates to reality.
Compared to regular hatchbacks, the B-MAX offers easier ingress and egress that can be a gift to many parents.

External Reviews

autoexpress[1]

Reviewer score 50% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from autoexpress have found:
The B-MAX cost from £12,995 for the 1.4 Studio, and topped out at £18,895 for 1.6 TDCi Titanium edition. Access is unrivalled thanks to the sliding doors, and practicality is boosted by an adjustable boot floor and a fold-flat front passenger seat. But the luggage capacity is disappointing; it's just 318 litres, which expands to 1,386 litres with the back seat folded.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Good range
  • Good infotainment
Cons
  • Sliding rear doors are heavy
  • Poor luggage capacity

topgear[2]

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from topgear have found:
The Ford B-Max is a ground-up design rather than a Fiesta with chunky wheelarches. It also has two firsts in this sector: twin sliding side doors and no central B-pillar. Prices start from £13,195, so it's not the cheapest MPV on sale.
Pros
  • Fun to drive
  • Fantastic infotainment tech
  • Decent fuel economy
Cons
  • No central B-pillar
