Product Overview

Subaru Forester 3 (chassis code SH) is a compact crossover in production from 2007 to 2013. It was available with a range of flat-4 engines that displaced 2.0 to 2.5 liters.
Compared to the Mk2 Forester, the Forester 3 has a blander, more generic design that disappoints. It has roughly comparable powertrains and is mechanically not superior in any meaningful way.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Subaru Forester 3 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

External Reviews

carmagazine[1]

Reviewer score 47% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
engine is exceptionally refined, barely audible at tickover, and revs with a smooth and satisfying thrum. Unlike some turbodiesels, its power delivery is very even – there's no all-or-nothing low-rev punch that tails out all too quickly. The problem – and this might come as a surprise – concerns the handling. Set off at moderate pace and you'll enjoy a cushioned ride but as soon as you turn up the wick it reveals itself to be irritatingly underdamped.
Pros
  • Powerful diesel engine
  • Decent infotainment system
  • Excellent fuel economy
Cons
  • Sub-par handling
  • No multilink drivetrain
