Product Overview

BMW M5 Touring E61 is a high-performance executive station wagon in production from 2007 to 2010. It was powered by a specially-engineered, F1-inspired V10 engine that displaced 5.0 liters.
Compared to other unicorn V10s of the period, the S85 engine used the same 90-degree bank angle, which reflected the desire to share components with the V8s, for the optimal bank angle for a V10 is 72-degrees. Nevertheless, the S85 proved to be smoother than a V8 and very snappy. It had a superior sonic performance compared to the V10 found in the Audi S6 and S8. Unfortunately, time has shown that it is also less durable, due to very tight bearing clearance and rather small bearing size.
Another downside is that manual transmission was only made available in North America. The rest of the world had to deal with an automated manual (SMG-III), which is clunky and high-maintenance.
Drivers who appreciate handling will be pleased to know that the M5 Touring E61 comes with double-wishbone suspensions at all four corners.
