Product Overview

Volvo XC70 III is an executive station wagon in production from 2007 to 2013, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-5 and inline-6 engines that displaced 2.0 to 3.2 liters.
Based on the Gen3 Volvo V70, this generation of XC70 doubled-down on the "uglification" project, this time with not only black plastic but also silver plastic. The effort was so great that the beautiful V70 became an ugly "crossover" wannabe.
Another departure from the previous XC70 is that AWD was no longer standard. This may indeed be a good choice, because an underpowered vehicle that never goes offroad really has no use for AWD.
Fortunately, the I5 and I6 engines found in the standard V70 could also be found here.
Drivers who appreciate handling should keep in mind that the Volvo XC70 uses MacPherson front suspension, which doesn't provide the best cornering performance.

Reviewer score 56% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The front-wheel drive XC70 has been introduced along with a front-drive XC60. Both cars are cheaper and less polluting than the 4x4 variants that sired them. With the manual gearbox we tried, the 0-62mph dash is down by 1.2sec to 9.6sec compared with the four-by-four.
Pros
  • Ride quality is still excellent
  • Fantastic infotainment system
Cons
  • Lack of front driveshafts
  • No automatic gearbox
