Product Overview

Volvo V60 is a compact executive station wagon in production from 2010 to 2014, whereupon it received a facelift. It was available with a range of inline-4, inline-5, and inline-6 engines that displaced 1.6 to 3.0 liters.
Largely a successor to the V50, the Gen1 V60 continues Volvo's pursuit of a sportier, less boring brand image. From many angles, the V60 could be said to be beautiful. However, its relatively compact size limits it competitiveness against larger alternatives.
What made this generation of Volvos, including the V60, special was the introduction of inline-6 engine in a transverse FWD/AWD layout, the only manufacturer to ever do so. Volvo managed this feat with its unique "Small I6" engine paired with a more compact transmission. Desirable as they are, however, the reduced size of these driveline components raise the question of long-term durability.

Reviewer score 61% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
The V60 has split personalities, depending on which of the three modes it's in. The default mode is ‘Hybrid', but it kicks off under electric power. Charging it for between three and four hours gives you a full battery and up to 31 miles of electric drive in ‘Pure' mode. There are 300 more parts in the Hybrid over the regular V60 diesel, and they add 301kg to the V60's mass for a total of 2044kg.
Pros
  • Cheaper than the regular V60 diesel
  • Powerful electric motor
Cons
  • Lack of shift paddles
  • Not as quiet as you'd expect
