Product Overview

Volvo V50 (Typ M) facelift is a compact station wagon in production from 2007 to 2012. It was available with a range of inline-4 and inline-5 engines that displaced 1.6 to 2.5 liters.
Compared to the pre-facelift model, the facelifted V50 got some minor design updates. More importantly, the inline-5 diesel D5 engine option became available, as did 6-speed manual transmissions for many powertrains. Volvo also introduced "Flexifuel" variants of the 1.8L and 2.0L petrol engines that can run on E85.
As before, the V50 still used MacPherson strut front suspensions. The R-Design trim package became available in 2008 and it did include stiffer suspensions that aided handling.

Reviewer score 75% (normalized by Neofiliac)
Reviewers from carmagazine have found:
R-Design is Volvo's milder take on BMW's M Sport kit. You can opt for the Ford Group's much-vaunted 2.0-litre turbodiesel Powershift powertrain. Not unlike VW's Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), it's a twin-clutch auto box that aims to marry ease of use of a fully automatic transmission with qualities of a manual.
Pros
  • Comfortable to drive
  • Powershift 2.0D is fun
Cons
  • Lack of oomph in the mid range
